Clark County Fire has been responsible for protecting the homes and businesses in Kyle Canyon. Fortunately, the threat to those structures has gone away, so the crews have returned to town. At one point, the flames had encroached within a quarter-mile of homes and backfires were set feet from some structures. County Fire, including the Office of Emergency Management (OEM), remains involved in the operation, primarily at the Incident Command Post, as do volunteer fire fighters from several rural stations out in the field. The OEM is working with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to define plans for the return of residents, businesses and others to the mountain once the fire threat is eliminated.
